LED lighting comes standard on the 2016 Mazda CX-9! How awesome is that?

Have you ever asked yourself “When is a headlight more than just a headlight?” A headlight is more than just a headlight when it pierces through the night. It’s more than just a headlight when it lets oncoming traffic know exactly what you’re driving without having to see any other part of the vehicle. A headlight is more than a headlight when it’s as much a status symbol as it is a safety system. A headlight is more than just a headlight when it comes equipped on the 2016 Mazda CX-9! The Mazda CX-9 is the only midsize, three-row crossover SUV in its class with standard LED headlights and tail lights.

LEDWith its signature lighting, the Mazda CX-9 carries a sense of presence that’s usually held in reserve for a much more expensive vehicle. This type of high-tech LED lighting also has the added benefit of greater visibility. There’s also more even light distribution than previous-generation systems.

Julien Montousse, director of design, MNAO said “From a design perspective, the LED lights allowed for a slim contouring of the lamps demonstrating the appropriate stealth attitude of the front fascia… The LED connection to our light-up ‘Signature Wing’ from the grille widens into a five-point shield—a look that clearly signifies CX-9 as taking Mazda up market.”

LEDThe Mazda CX-9’s low-beam headlights generate 900 lumens per unit. This is about twice the output of a comparable halogen headlight. On the whole, the headlights are about 35% brighter than a standard halogen headlight and can throw light 10% farther than a comparable xenon HID unit. That’s seriously impressive! Because of this headlight’s adaptability, Mazda engineers were able to package both low- and high-beam lights in a single housing for a polished look. These LED headlights also run at a lower temperature cooler than halogen or xenon headlights. They also offer what Mazda expects to be greater long-term durability. Mazda knows no one likes the surprise of a headlight suddenly burning out. Under Mazda’s safety beliefs, these LED headlights are seen as an answer to producing the ideal amount of light. It’s goal is to illuminate the road as if it were daylight outside. The LED tail lights work in comparable approach. They light up faster than conventional halogen bulbs in emergency situations as to help prevent rear-end collisions.
